Suburban Garage Door has worked on Carrollton doors since 1992. We are a family business, and our shop is at 610 E. Main St. in Allen, about 25 miles northeast of you. That is a real drive, so we book Carrollton work honestly rather than promise a truck within the hour.

If a car is shut in, or the door is stuck open for the night, say so at the start; that moves the job in our schedule, and emergency service is part of this trade.
Carrollton decides which way a garage may face, and the rule turns on when your subdivision was platted. Neighborhoods laid out before the late 1980s without alley access are where front-facing garages legally live. Everything platted after that is rear entry or side entry by city ordinance. Both patterns sit in the same city, often a few blocks apart, because more than half of Carrollton’s houses were built before 1990 and the 1980s put up more of them than any other decade.
We treat that as a diagnostic. Tell us which way your door faces and we know roughly what era of opening we are driving to, how we will reach it, and what to load.
A door that faces the street on a block with no alley usually sits on one of the older plats, and that is where we start. Torsion springs are rated in cycles, not years, and a door that has cycled two or three times a day since the 1980s is on its second set at least, often its third.
We change springs in pairs. The other one is the same age and has done the same work, so paying for a second visit six weeks later is not a saving. More on broken spring repair.
On the rear-entry side of the rule the door faces an alley, and two things follow. You back out at a tighter angle every day, so the bottom section and the jambs take contact damage a street-facing door rarely sees, and a knock that looks minor can pull the track out of line. Our work happens from the alley too: parking, carrying sections in, hauling old hardware out. Tell us when you call if the alley is narrow, gated, or blocked, because it decides where the truck goes. Side-entry garages tell the same story with a fence and a side yard in place of the alley.
On June 6, 2018, baseball-size hail came through Carrollton. Police confirmed serious property damage in the western part of the city, with windows smashed across several blocks between I-35E and the Sam Rayburn Tollway. Doors on those streets are still carrying it.
A dent that reads as cosmetic from the driveway is not. The section is no longer flat, so the door rides badly, one roller carries more than its share, and the opener works against the difference every cycle. Straight-line wind does its own version of this without a tornado ever being confirmed.
Carrollton is not all one kind of ground. The Elm Fork of the Trinity runs along the west side of the city, and the terraces beside it hold real sand and gravel; the city ran a commercial gravel business from 1912 and was known as a grain and gravel town. Away from the river it is the same prairie clay as the rest of North Texas, which swells and shrinks with the season and moves what sits on it. There is relief here too: Carrollton Heights was platted on high ground right after the 1908 flood, while other streets sit in the creek bottoms.
So we do not walk up to a door that catches and blame the soil. A moved opening, a bent track, a loose bracket, and a spring losing tension look alike from the driveway and cost very different amounts to fix. Noise, drag, and slower travel are the early warnings, and a maintenance visit catches them while they are still small.
Older is not the same as finished. Plenty of the Carrollton doors we look at are one set of springs from another decade of service, and we say so when that is the answer, even though a new door would pay us better.
We tell you the price up front, before any work starts. If the technician finds something else once the door is apart, that is a conversation with you, not a line item that shows up on the invoice. And we will not sell you a new door when a repair will hold. That is the whole pricing policy, and it has kept customers with us since 1992.

We would rather book that drive than pretend it is short. You get a day and a window we can hold, given on the phone while you are still deciding. If the first opening is two days out, we say two days out instead of taking today’s slot and calling at a quarter to five to move you.
Once we are there we cover all of it: the older streets on the high ground, the 1970s and 1980s neighborhoods that are the bulk of the housing, the alley-served subdivisions that came later, and the west side toward the Elm Fork.
We answer the phone Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm. We are closed Sunday.
Some doors really are done: a section cracked past patching, rust through the bottom, a panel design nobody makes any more. When that is the honest answer we say it, and we handle the installation ourselves.
One part of a Carrollton replacement is the city’s call, not ours. Orientation comes with the plat, so a rear or side entry garage gets a rear or side entry door. Turning a garage around to face the street is a request to the City Council, not a shopping decision.

A dead opener is not automatically a new opener. A sensor knocked out of line, a stripped drive gear, a travel limit that has drifted: those are a large share of our opener calls, and every one is a repair. On a house from Carrollton’s build-out decades the opener has usually been swapped once already, so what we find is often a 1990s or 2000s unit aging out in its turn. Why do some Carrollton garages face the street and others open onto an alley?
The plat date. Subdivisions laid out before the late 1980s without alley access kept their front-facing garages; everything platted after that is rear or side entry under the city’s ordinance. A few narrower exceptions exist. Either way it tells us roughly how old your opening is.
Our garage opens onto the alley. Does that change the repair?
The parts do not change. The access does. We work the job from the alley, so tell us if it is narrow, gated, or blocked by a bin or a parked car.
Can you put a garage door on our carport?
No. Carrollton does not allow a garage door on a carport, whatever anyone quotes you for it. Turning a carport into an enclosed garage is a conversation with the city before it is one with us.
Our door is from the 1980s. Can you still get parts?
Almost always. Springs, cables, rollers, hinges, tracks, and openers are still made for doors that old. What gets hard is matching a damaged section on a panel design that is out of production, which is usually where replacing beats repairing.
How fast can you get to Carrollton?
Not the same day, as a rule. You are about 25 miles from our shop in Allen, and we would rather give you a real date than a hopeful one. Morning calls give us the most room.

Yes, 8 am to 2 pm. Weekdays are 8 am to 5 pm, and we are closed Sunday.
