Suburban Garage Door has worked on Wylie doors since 1992. We are a family business with our shop on Main Street in Allen, about twelve miles north of you, so a Wylie call is a short run down FM 1378.

Wylie is the one city we cover where most of the garage doors can be dated to a single afternoon.
On April 11, 2016, one supercell crossed North Texas and Wylie took the worst of it. The National Weather Service’s own account of that day records 80 percent of Wylie homes affected and more than $300 million in damage. Streets were re-roofed and re-sided through the following year, and a large share of the city’s garage doors went with them.
So Wylie does not behave the way its build dates suggest. The median house here was finished in 2006, but the steel on the front of a lot of those houses is nine years old, not twenty. It also means most people here have already been through this once and know what a dented panel is worth, so we will skip that part.
Ten is not old for a garage door, but it is right about when the parts that move start asking for attention: rollers, hinges, cables and the bottom seal. Because so much of Wylie was fitted inside the same two-year window, those doors reach that age together, street by street. A noise the door did not used to make is not a crisis here. It is a service call.
Here is the trap in a city that replaced its doors all at once. A hail claim replaces what the hail damaged. Plenty of the time that meant new sections going up on the original track, the original torsion spring and the original opener, because none of those were dented and none were on the claim. A Wylie garage can hold a door from 2017 running on hardware from 2005.
Springs are rated in cycles, not in years, and Wylie households average more than three people, so more cars and more trips put more cycles a day on a door than the age of its panels suggests. A spring lifting since the house was built has spent what it was rated for, however new the steel above it looks. Roofs get settled first. In a storm that size, a great many garage doors took a dent, kept working, and never made it onto the paperwork. Ten years on, we still get called out to them.
A dent is not only cosmetic. A section pushed out of plane rides badly in the track, wears the rollers unevenly, and makes the opener pull against the damage every cycle until something further down the line gives out. The better news is that a dented door is usually a repair, and often one section rather than the whole thing. We will tell you which before we quote anything.
The 2016 storm was not a fluke of the calendar. Of roughly 150 hail reports logged within ten miles of Wylie since 2004, more landed in April than in March and May put together, and that has held for twenty years.
That makes late winter the sensible time to have a door looked at, not because we want the appointment, but because a door already carrying a frayed cable or a tired spring goes into the worst month in the worst shape. A maintenance visit in February is a small thing. A door that fails the same week as everyone else’s is not.
A lot of Wylie homeowners priced this kind of work once already, in 2016, with an adjuster looking over their shoulder. That suits us. Most of the doors we look at here need a part rather than a door, and we say so.
We tell you the price up front, before any work starts. If the technician finds something else once the door is apart, that is a conversation with you, not a line item that shows up on the invoice. And we will not sell you a new door when a repair will hold. That is the whole pricing policy, and it has kept customers with us since 1992.

We cover all of Wylie: the older blocks around downtown, the subdivisions that carried the city through the 2000s and 2010s, and the newer streets out toward the lake. Wylie is an unusual shape to work: roughly two fifths of what sits inside the city limits is water, with Lavon Lake north and Lake Ray Hubbard south. Addresses that look close on a map are sometimes a much longer drive, and we plan around that.
Our shop is at 610 E. Main St. in Allen, straight down FM 1378 to FM 544 or across on SH 5 to SH 78. That is close enough that we can often reach a Wylie door the same day it breaks, especially on a morning call. If today is not possible, we tell you on the phone, not after you have given up an afternoon.
We answer the phone Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm. We are closed Sunday.
Some doors really are finished: a section cracked past patching, rust through the bottom, damage that costs more to chase than to replace. When that is the answer we say it, and we handle the installation.
Wylie brings a matching problem most cities do not have. If a house has two doors that both went on in the same post-storm year and only one is damaged now, the model may no longer be made, and even where it is, nine years of Texas sun has moved the color on the one still hanging. Sometimes the answer is one new door and a repair on the other, sometimes both so they match. That is your call, made with the numbers in front of you. If your street has a homeowners association, that approval is theirs and not ours; Wylie’s planning department keeps an official list if you are not sure which one you are under. What we can do is narrow the choice to doors that suit the block.

A dead opener is not automatically a new opener. Sensors, gears and travel limits account for a large share of the calls we run, and every one of those is an opener repair. That is worth knowing here, where an opener left in place through a door replacement is the oldest thing in the garage. When the motor really is done we handle opener installation, mostly LiftMaster, and we program remotes and keypads while the truck is there.
Our door was replaced after the 2016 hailstorm. Are we set for a while?
The door itself, probably. The parts that move, not necessarily, and a hail replacement did not always include the springs, the track or the opener, because those were not damaged and were not on the claim. If you are not sure what was changed, tell us the year and we will start there.
When is the best time to have the door checked?

Are you open on Saturday?
Yes, from 8 am to 2 pm. Weekday hours are 8 am to 5 pm, and we are closed Sunday.
Do you work on my brand of door or opener?
Yes. We repair and replace all brands of garage doors, openers and remotes. For new opener installations we mostly fit LiftMaster.
Will you try to sell me a new door?
No. If a repair will hold, we tell you a repair will hold. New doors are for doors that are actually done.
